The importance of a sleeping schedule

One of my new year’s resolutions is to improve my sleeping schedule. Lately, I have been going to bed around 12 am binging my favorite movies or simply scrolling through TikTok. I am sure many of you can identify with me. I fall asleep late and then wake up around 10 am and I feel like the rest of my day goes by sooo quickly and I am not able to enjoy it. But then there are days that I have to wake up at 7:30 am and I feel so much more relaxed and calm thought the day since I am not rushing. I feel like I have so much time on my hands and can take advantage of it.

I want to change this. I want to go to sleep at a reasonable time and wake up early to have a huge head start. However, this is not the only reason I want to improve my sleep schedule. Our body has an internal clock that knows when we usually do things, as a result, our mood and energy depend on it.

The recommended amount of sleep for 13-18-year-olds is 8 to 10 hours and 7 or more hours for adults. It might be difficult to get all these hours in each night, but we must try for the sake of, well, ourselves. Research has shown that a good sleeping schedule can lower one’s risk for serious health issues, reduce stress, improve one’s mood, think more clearly, etc. Moreover, I don’t see a reason why we would like to sleep the least amount of hours possible. Who doesn’t love to sleep? Who doesn’t love their bed?

Research shows that the best time to go to sleep is 10 pm. However, this is not a must. In this demanding world getting enough sleep is difficult. We all have so much to do but we are also subject to distractions that hinder our progress. I urge you to sleep at a reasonable time, before midnight and get all of your sleeping hours in. Relax into your sleep and wake up fresh in the morning.
