Social Sprouting

Writer's picture: Paulina TorresPaulina Torres

I grew up being very shy and afraid of embarrassing myself and being subject to other people’s opinions. However, as I have matured and aged, I have become more social and confident. If you are struggling with this, let me help you.

This is my story: I have a funky issue in which I can’t correctly pronounce my R’s. During school, my peers loved to point it out and mock my pronunciation. However, I can’t do anything about it, I physically can’t pronounce it. That made me avoid speaking and therefore become an introvert.

When I got into high school, I noticed how my decisions in the past had affected my social life. So I decided to do something about it, I decided to do things for myself and disregard what I thought people might think about me. That’s where my journey began. I made more friends and was not afraid to speak my mind.

Let me help you.

First off, you need to be confident in who you are. Believe me, as you are worried about how other people see you, many others are doing the same. Embrace who you are. We have a small amount of time to live, don’t be afraid, rather enjoy every single moment. Don’t spend your time worrying about anything, really.

Go out of your comfort zone. Try new things, it will be worth it. You might just find your true self in the process. Talk to people, give compliments, and learn to accept rejection.

Embrace who you are, but most importantly don’t allow anyone to bring you down. Remember, not everyone will like you, and that is okay. We are not born to make everyone happy. Begin with you, and spread love and happiness to everyone you can. Go out and be yourself!
