It's all about balance

As my aunt used to tell me, everything in excess is bad for you. Life goes by so quickly nowadays. We are all worried about earning money, getting good grades, affording bills, eating, and sleeping. However, many of us fail to distinguish life from work. Work has become our lives; that is really sad. We must learn to differentiate them and create a healthy work-life balance.

Growing up, I always had a distant father, guess what, he didn’t know how to separate his life from work. Although I am extremely grateful for the job he had since it allowed him to provide me and my family with everything we needed, it also took our dad away. Growing up watching him, I decided I did not want to be like him.

By working, I have learned that jobs consume a lot of time in our lives. Moreover, they provide money, which is crucial for our existence. However, as important as that is, living our lives and focusing on ourselves and what makes us happier is much more important.

I don‘t have the perfect recipe to do so. However, I can provide a few tips:

  • Work will consume you. Choose something you like, at the end of the day, you will be spending countless hours on a certain cause. Be sure you support it.

  • Give it your all: While working, put in your best effort. Not only to obtain the best results but to take advantage of your time. In that case, you won‘t need to go back to your tasks and improve them. Get them done perfectly the first time.

  • Try to leave work at the office: Although this may be hard, mostly if you have a high job position, learn to focus your time on one thing. If there is an emergency and you need to cancel plans, for example, try to make them up.

Let me know if you have other tips. But this is what has helped me. Remember work isn‘t life, work is a part of your life.
